If the address on your return is incorrect it can hot be changed without contacting the IRS
- You can contact the IRS directly to update your address (you can use their toll-free number: 800-829-1040).
- You can also fill out Form 8822 and mail it to them.
- If you are using direct deposit, your refund won't be affected, but you may not get important correspondence from the IRS if you don't update your address.
