Address and tax withholding error between two states I lived in 2024
Hello - sorry in advance for any lack of knowledge.
INFO:
Moved From Kentucky to Ohio
Employer: Ohio
I have moved to Ohio from Kentucky in 2024 - End of March to be exact.
When I talked to the employer about the address change - they said I could just change it in the profile in ADP and it would automatically update it. Being dumb, I did that and did not inquire back, and saw misleading information about how this could be corrected during tax filing. Since finding out running into this issue, I have corrected the address and the withholding to my current residence in Ohio.
When I was doing the filing alone, I was trying to do the partial residence and separated the income to match the earning during the time I lived in each state. Which obviously didn't match the W-2 and cause them to be rejected. I talked to my brother who has more experience in taxes and is saying that there is no way but to just file through Kentucky as reported in W-2? The unfortunate part is that I would have paid about a 1000 dollar more in state income by not changing the address.
If there is any resource and help that I can get I'd appreciate it.
