After you file

You can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 to check on your W-2. You should have your information ready when you call. You will need: Your name, address and phone number. Social Security or individual tax ID number.

You can get a wage and income transcript, containing the Federal tax information your employer reported to the Social Security Administration (SSA), by visiting the IRS page Get your tax records and transcripts.

You can obtain a copy of your Form W-2 from the Social Security Administration (SSA) if you need a copy. ‌You can get free copies if you need them for a Social Security-related reason. But there is a fee of $62 per request if you need them for an unrelated reason, such as to file your taxes.

You  would send your request to:

Social Security Administration
Office of Central Operations
Office of Earnings and International Operations
Division of Earnings and Business Services
P.O. Box 33003
Baltimore, MD 21290-3003

The only way to get an actual copy of your Form W-2 from the IRS is to order a copy of your entire return by using Form 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return and paying a $30 fee for each return requested.
