Also, there are many refund scams going around including the issuance of fake refub=nd checks to taxpayers. then a person saying they are with the IRS calls and says you must return the money using personal funds.
> Do not deposit or cash the check until you have confirmed its authenticity with the IRS.
> Contact the IRS directly by calling their toll-free numbers: 800-829-1040 (for individuals) or 800-829-4933 (for businesses).
> Explain the situation to an IRS agent and ask for verification.
> The IRS agent will assist you in determining why you received the check and whether anyone else filed for it without your knowledge.
> If it is determined to be fraudulent, report it to the IRS immediately to protect yourself from further financial losses.
