WMR updates based on the transcript. TT uses WMR. So if WMR updates late, for example, it updates today (02/23) that your refund will be issued 02/26, since that’s 4 days, you don’t have to pay the $25 for the 5 days early. It’s very simple.
There are many, many people who get their money 5 days early because of this. Just because the schedule that the IRS issues refunds and updates their system doesn’t align perfectly with TT doesn’t mean TT is trying to scam you. If it doesn’t work out, you don’t have to pay the fee, period.
