Who claims that the IRS sent you a letter? The IRS? How did you find this out?
I think it would be better to give it some more time rather than blindly making a change that may not be at all what the IRS is worried about - if, indeed they are worried about anything at all.
And we don't even know if there was a mistake, much less why someone didn't up on it.
