Since it is a joint account you can allocate the interest income to your spouse based on a percentage of what he contributed. If you are only filing the state return separate you will not have a problem with the Form 1099-INT only being in your name. The state will not get a copy of the Form 1099-INT like the federal government will so it is not likely the state will match your tax return with your interest statements. If they do question you about it you can tell them what happened and that should resolve the issue.
