After you file

First, if you are married, you can only file as Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separate, unless you were separated for the last 6 months of the year.  If that applies, one of you may be able to file as Head of Household

If you Amended your original return to remove the child you claimed, your Amendment won't be processed for up to 16 weeks.  If you Efiled your Amendment, your wife would need to mail in her return, as you mentioned.

She will receive the Refund indicated on her return; however, since your Amended Return has not yet been processed,  one or both of you may still receive a letter from the IRS asking for verification of the claim.
