After you file
If you are thinking about your 2015 federal income tax refund might be possibly taxable, the answer will be NO. It is not taxable, you do not need to report it with your 2016 taxes.
If this is for a state or local tax refund, it might be taxable.
Please follow the steps to let the program decide:
1. After sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
2. At the right upper corner, search for 1099-G or 1099-g and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.
- Important! Make sure to include the dash in your search, or you'll end up on the unemployment/paid family leave screen.
3. On-screen, Did you have any of these types of income? screen, answer Yes.
4. On the next screen, select State or local income tax refunds and click Continue.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your state/locality, refund amount, and tax year.
