Yes, you should wait for your W-2 before you file. It's very important to have all of your information before your complete your tax return.
There are a couple of things you can do.
- Contact the employer to ask when the W-2 will be received. Best action.
- Gather your pay stubs so that you can create a W-2, only if you have to because you didn't receive one.
Keep in mind that your employer does have until the end of January to provide the W-2s. Try contacting them as soon as possible, it may be waiting for you.
