Here's how to change your filing status from single to married filing separately.
- Click the Personal Info tab.
- Click Continue until you get to "Your Personal Info Summary." (It might only take one click.)
- Click the Edit button to the right of your name. Continue through the questions until you get to the screen that asks "Were You Married?" Select Married. It will then ask "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?" Select No.
- On the next screen, enter your spouse's name and Social Security number.
- When you get back to "Your Personal Info Summary" it should now say "Married filing separately under "Your Filing Status."
