After you file
Just to be clear:
- You've submitted a federal amended return, but it has not been accepted or processed to your knowledge.
- You had your state calculate an amended return, and you got a refund.
- Your wife prepared an amended return, and you calculated that you owe money.
Before you file anything I suggest you contact your state Department of Revenue to determine what it is that they prepared and what was included.
Since I don't know what state your in.
This is a list of Department of Revenue by state List of state DOR's.
In addition, contact the IRS to determine what the status of the original amended return is. If they cross paths, there could be problems.
You can call toll-free at 800-829-1040 or contact a Taxpayer Assistance Center Local IRS Office.
