After you file

Ten minutes late is acceptable since the IRS allows people to fix rejected returns. If you filed your return in October, it should have processed. If you were due a refund by mail, it would have been returned since you moved. If they have a question about your return, any letters mailed to you may have been returned.

First things first- did you owe money and pay it or were you getting a refund?

  • If you owed money and paid it, was it processed - they took your money?
  • If you were due a refund, what does the Where's My Refund say when you check for your 2022 return? Check with this link. It will give you information.

Second, check your account with the IRS and see if your account transcript shows money owed or paid to you. See if it shows your return filed for 2022. See Your Online Account | Internal Revenue Service

If everything is good, great. If something is still not right, contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 and do not put in your social security number, do not select that you are calling about a refund. Try not to select anything to get to a real person.
