After you file
Form 1040X Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return won't be available until 02/21/2024.
There are specific credits and deductions available to help with the cost of education. Most education tax credits are taken by parents.
If your parents are claiming you as a dependent, they should report form 1098-T on their return.
If you're not being claimed as a dependent, enter the 1098-T on your return regardless of who paid the tuition, unless it was your employer. In that case, just keep the 1098-T with your tax records
To report form 1098-T:
- Login to your return.
- Select Federal from the left menu.
- Go to Deductions and Credits.
- Scroll down to Education.
- Click start next to Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)
