As xmasbaby0 mentioned, if the return was already filed, you will have to wait to see if it either gets rejected or processed by the IRS. If the return gets rejected, you can go back and add your dependent. If the IRS accepts your return, you will need to wait until it is fully processed by the IRS to file an amended return.
Here are the steps to follow to add a dependent:
- Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
- Select My Info in the menu.
- Select the Add another dependent button if you need to add someone.
The amended return forms for 2023 are not available as of today. Here is a link with more information on when forms are available.
