After you file
Thank you Brittany. I'm not sure I presented my situation clearly:
I'd filed 2021 taxes last year. And I'd started working on 2022 taxes importing from my 2021 return.
I've done about 4+ hours on the 2022 return. (It is not due until October 2023 for my county due to storms etc.).
I now realize I need to amend my 2021 returns. I've managed to do that using 2021 Turbo-Tax and have printed and mailed the amended 2021 returns to IRS.
I suppose I have 2 questions:
1) Should I wait for it to get acknowledged before proceeding with 2022 work? Or, can I somehow "bring" in the amended 2021 part to my 2022 return? Or should I just restart my 2022 work, importing the ameneded-2021 return into 2022 Turbo-Tax and do everything again?
2) Separately, can I file the 2022 (with the changes), before hearing back about the 2021 amendment from IRS? I'm pretty certain of the validity of my amendment (I'd omitted a 1099-R for 2021 and the amendment was to include it. It made no change to the taxes).
thanks again!
