After you file
audit protection doesn't kick in until after you receive a notice from the IRS/state and follow the steps to notify
TaxResources, Inc., also called TaxAudit.com by calling 877-829-9695, or report your notice on their website at http://intuit.taxaudit.com/. and it's not protection in the absolute sense. the IRS can audit any return. all that this service offers is to handle the IRS/state notices. it may request you to provide additional info. for example, you deduct $1000 for business-related travel. the IRS asks for proof. you can't provide it. then the IRS has the authority to disallow the deduction and bill you for the additional taxes, penalties and interest. there is not much, if anything, that TaxResources can do.
