After you file
No, you don't have to amend your income tax return if you:
- Received a corrected tax form after filing (the "corrected" box is checked) and
- The new info (W-2 Box 13 Retirement Plan is now checked), and
- It does not change your refund or tax due amount.
Having the “Retirement Plan” box checked means you had access to a retirement plan such as 401k at work, which may limit your ability to get tax incentives for other retirement plans like an IRA.
