As xmasbaby0 points out, if you have already submitted your tax return for e-file, you will need to wait a couple of weeks to amend your return.
If you need to amend your return, don't go in a change things around just to see how it comes out. This will cause problems when you amend your return.
If you have not filed yet, this is how to add it to your tax return:
- Select Federal on the left side menu.
- Under Deductions and Credits, find Education. Expand the section and click Start to the right of Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T).
- Answer the first question Yes.
- Select Yes and click Continue.
- Choose whether you want to upload the 1098-T from your computer, or type it in yourself.
- Click Continue and follow the on screen instructions.
- Keep going until you complete the section.
- Select Maximize my education tax break.
- Click Continue, you will see the amount of the credit.
