My son is no longer a dependent but was a covered individual on my 1095-A Marketplace policy - form 8962 does not match
The IRS has contacted my 24-year old son regarding his 2021 taxes saying that his 8962 form does not match the information they have on file from the Marketplace. He was covered under my Marketplace health insurance for a few months in 2021 following college graduation until his new job started and he was covered through his work. He filed his taxes independently and was NOT a dependent on my tax return. I am the only one who received a 1095-A for the health policy and he is listed under “covered individuals.”
In Turbo Tax, my son entered ALL the figures from my 1095-A form into Turbo Tax and then indicated it was a shared policy and allocated 0% to himself in the screen that followed. (I allocated 100% to myself on my tax own return). The 8962 form that was generated for him answered YES to question #9 and indicated on #30 that 0% was allocated to himself. Everything else on the form was blank.
To be clear, my son did not receive his own 1095-A form.
The IRS letter is asking for his 1095-A form and, if applicable, a newly completed 8962 form.
Can you let me know how I can correct this? Thanks!
