After you file

Someone must have fraudulently filed a 0 return for me as a single person, because the 2021 I filed today kicked back with an error that I was already on a return, but I never filed one. Now I can not file electronically, we never received a $1400 government check, but the on file tax transcript says we did. It's very odd.
So now I am sitting here with the proper return, the IRS told me I had to amend, and they would not remove the incorrect fraudulent return. It's a mess and we are owed money back.
If you never filed an original return, you don't amend. Instead, print and mail your original return and attach a copy of form 14039-T, identity theft affidavit, explaining the circumstances.
