what is the issue date printed on your husband's social security card?
The IRS is woefully backlogged and there are many people waiting for their taxes to be processed. I wouldn't worry about this and just be patient. I suspect you paper filed (because of the W-7 application???) and if so, it'll probably be 6-9 months until the tax return is processed.
But please post back the issue date on the SSN - that has ramifications to what you can do next.
