I understand that it may take longer than usual due to the high volume but is it normal that we can not even find the cases after 4 months?
If somehow my paper tax return is not sent to irs, what should I do?
Please confirm something. If you chose to file your return on paper by mail, did you print it out and physically mail it yourself? TurboTax does not mail it for you.
If you DID print it out and mailed it, then to check on it be sure you are using the IRS tool correctly.
- Be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status. If it's a joint return, it should work on either SSN, but you can try each.
- Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount. Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a screen.
- Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.
You can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline. I've seen it work for some users when the WMR tool didn't. 800-829-1954
In normal years (which this is not) a paper return should show up in the IRS WMR tool about 4 weeks after mailing it. But for the last couple of years all bets are off. The IRS got way behind on processing mailed paper returns, and it may take a long time just to show up in the IRS WMR tool..
