After you file
@djs1510 - I think we can figure this out. Please answer these questions and I will circle back to you
Since your filed MFS, please respond for each tax return separately:
1) what is on Line 28 of Form 1040?
2) what are the ages of the children listed on EACH return (use their ages as of 12/31/21 please)
3) on Form 8812, what is on Line 14f?
4) if you received Letter 6419, how much does it state your received for the Advance (there would be two letters, one for each parent)
5) please review your bank statements from July - Dec, 2021 and provide that the amount the IRS deposited (around the 15th of the month) for the 6 months in total.
6) how much did the IRS change your tax return by, in otherwords, if you now owe $9828, what did TT calculate that you owed (or refund due) when you submitted the return.
You are correct that TT did all the calculations, but the problem I see over and over again is that my requests 3) and 5) above do not match - THAT is why the IRS is adjusting tax returns. TT was dependent on your entry matching the IRS records.
please post back the asnwers to my questions and I will be able to explain what happened
