After you file
@johnmatthews2701 while I understand your frustration, be aware of how the TT guarentee works.
Yes, they do guarentee the accurary of the tax return if the error is caused by their software's calcuations; however, they do not guarentee the accuracy of the tax return if the error is caused by data entry. In faireness, if you don't enter a number accurately, the software calculations will output an incorrect answer and TT doesn't take responsibility for that.
There was a question as part of the Recovery Credit asking how much you received for the Stimulus. If you entered a number that did not match the IRS records (as they are the ones that sent you the stimulus so they know what they sent), then the IRS adjusted your return by the difference and that difference reduces Line 30, which in turn reduces the refund / increases what you owe.
The calculation on Line 30 is rather simple: $1400 times the number of people listed on your tax return LESS the amount you received last March - May, 2021, but not less than zero.
What is on Line 30 of your tax return as submitted?
What did you enter as the amount you received in stimuls last year?
How much did you receive for the 3rd stimulus last spring? (please look at your bank account statements from March - May, 2021, please don't go on memory to answer this)
someone in there we are going to determine the math behind the IRS's adjustment
does that help?
