While I appreciate the reply here it doesn't really help me I'm afraid.
I have not amended my federal return as the mistake I need to amend is specific to the NY state return.
I am well aware of the difference between IT-201 and IT-203. I filed IT-203, because I am a non-resident.
Those who file IT-201 for their return will logically file IT-201X for an amendment. Those who file IT-203 for their return, as I did, will logically file IT-203X for an amendment.
New York State Law requires that I file electronically if I am using tax preparation software. It follows that if I want to file an amended return, then I will need to do so electronically. I cannot legally file by mail.
I believe the error message reported by TurboTax is a bug that only manifests when someone files IT-203 initially. Can someone at Intuit please review this and let me know if I'm right?
