Just adding another example to the thread....
I used Turbo Tax to file my tax return. The IRS.gov site confirmed my tax refund was processed on Feb. 24th. My direct deposit was rejected by my bank because (according to my bank) I put my specific checking account number rather than my general account number. It was my bank that explained to me that when filing through Turbo Tax, an intermediary bank is used to collect Turbo Tax payments and disburse refund direct deposits and checks. My bank encouraged me to contact the intermediary bank to get information about my refund, but the representative did not know the contact information. It was only by checking these forums that I was able to track down the information to contact Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG).
The SBTPG website and automated phone system both claimed to have received my refund and issued it by check. I have called many times since to confirm this information. The automated phone system only gives my check mailed date as the date on which I call. When I call, I am either on hold for a long while, or the line is busy and disconnects. I once requested the option to receive a call back -- hours later a person called and told me my check was mailed 3/2. I sent an email but have not yet received a response. I've tried calling several times today (3/22), but it has been busy each time.
So... the IRS released my refund on 2/24. The SBTPG website confirms this and claims to have sent my refund via check. The SBTPG phone system claims to have mailed my refund check on 3/2, 3/4, AND 3/22. I cannot reach a live person via phone or email to get accurate information.
The standard issued replies on this forum do not actually help anyone. They only direct you to the SBTPG website or phone system... which do not actually help anyone.
I'm a single mom. I'm looking for an apartment. I just totaled my car by hitting a deer. And so on... life issues. Like so many people, I desperately need to receive my refund! Any agency responsible for assisting with refunds should just know how necessary and important it is to provide people with prompt, detailed information and peace of mind. People just want help, information, and to be treated like people. It's a shame so many are dealing with the stress of getting none of that.
