Amend 2021 and filing prior year 2019
I filed my 2021 and received my refund without any issues. I discovered that the number I used for my unemployment income was about $200 less than the number on my 1099-G. No problem, just amend, right?
That leads me to my next question. I never filed 2019. I'd be due a refund in the $1000-$2000 range. I'd like to get this before it's too late. Do I need to amend my 2021 before I go ahead and file a prior year return for 2019?
Also, while doing my 2021 taxes, it asked if I wanted to use my 2019 AGI for the EIC. (Since I hadn't filed 2019, I couldn't.) But I made over 3 times more in 2019 than I did for 2021. So it would have benefitted me more to use my 2019 AGI, right? So should I just file my prior year 2019 taxes, and then go ahead and amend my 2021, so I can both correct my 1099-G amount, AND use my 2019 AGI to calculate my EIC since it would be more? Thanks in advance.
