After you file
Let's go through what you actually have and need. Let's follow the Form MO-1040 Instructions which say To file an amended individual income tax return, use Form MO-1040. Select the box at the top of the form. Complete Forms MO-1040 and the Individual Income Tax Adjustments (Form MO-A), pages 1-4 (pages 27-30 in the instructions), using corrected figures. Attach all schedules along with a copy of your federal changes and your Federal Form 1040X. If you are due a refund, mail to: Department of Revenue, P.O. Box 500, Jefferson City, MO 65105-0500. If you have an amount due, mail to Department of Revenue, P.O. Box 329, Jefferson City, MO 65105-0329.
What to actually mail:
- Look at the Form MO-A- itemized deductions, Social Security, etc. If you do not have any of those adjustments on the form, the form is not generated and you do NOT have to mail it.
- Do you have any other forms for MO that have changed? If so, include them. If not, just the 1040 it is.
- On to the federal, include your 1040x and any schedules that changed.
I recommend you mail with tracking to ensure your information arrives safe and secure.
