After you file

I will answer what I can:

"Would it be worth amending my return to leave off the deduction that required the paper forms? It was not a huge amount and taking it off wouldn't decrease our refund by terribly much. Is it worth trying this, or is it better to just ride it out?"

  • No, do not submit an amendment.  The IRS is still in the process of evaluating your return.  You must wait until the return is closed, and preferably you get your refund before you submit an amendment.  Submitting an amendment would only complicate and delay your refund.

We don't have any information about the timeframe to process or receive a refund date in this situation.
