TurboTax can choose only one filing status. First you select single, then the filing status
is determined by TurboTax after a series of questions are answered. If you review
your 1040 form you can see if the head of household filing status was
selected. Here are the steps to open/review your return after filing.
You can check that by taking the necessary steps to review and if necessary amend the return. An amendment is only necessary if the tax increases or if you would be entitled to a refund.
- Sign in to TurboTax, if you're not already signed in.
- Click Taxes in the upper left area (under the TurboTax logo).
- In your Tax Timeline, click Amend in the SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO section.
You're not amending at this time; this just opens your return back up to review.
You would select single, then TurboTax takes you through a series of questions to determine if you are eligible for head of household filing status.
To review the answers to your questions in TurboTax Deluxe:
- Personal Info tab
- Update or Edit your marital status
- Choose single
- TurboTax will take you through the steps to the head of household qualifiers
