After you file
You asked when you will get your "return". But I assume you meant to ask "when will I get my refund?"
Have you efiled? If so, has your return been accepted yet? For most people the IRS will not start processing returns until January 29, so after that date you should hear if it was accepted or rejected. The IRS pulls a few returns early for testing purposes. So that would be 21 days after January 29 for most people.
However, in early filing season each year, there is a delay for many folks due to this:
If you have EIC (earned income credit, aka EITC) or ACTC (additional child tax credit), the IRS will start processing them on Jan. 29, but will not start releasing those refunds until February 15. That means people with those types of credits may not start receiving their refunds until around February 27.
You should get an email after January 29 about whether the efiled return was accepted or rejected. Or you can get the efile status by logging back into your account, or by checking the efile status with this tool:
