I cannot access my unfinished 2017 return. Each time I click "Complete a 2017 return," it tries to get me to purchase TurboTax again. How do I get my unfinished return?

 

After you file

If you used Online TurboTax and didn't finish prior to the shutdown, you can download your already-started *.tax2017 data file, then open it in the desktop software to finish it.   If you already paid prior to the shutdown, then TurboTax Support should furnish you the software.

To get the data file, log in and go to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents".  Expand that section, choose 2017, then the link "Download the *.tax file."

If you have already paid for your 2017 return, here's how to phone TurboTax Support to ask for the software.  Hours are 5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8PM Eastern) Mon-Fri.
