After you file

Are you asking about the Federal return or the New York return?

The credit was not added to your Adjusted Gross Income so it should have no impact on your state return.

For the Federal return, were you due a refund for the 2020 Tax Year return and did you get that refund?

In other works, was the original 2020 Tax Return accepted and processed? And if so, was it adjusted by the IRS?

The IRS will correct a math issue, but not an input error.

If the error went through unnoticed, you may need to file an amended return.

According to the IRS:

"... if your 2020 has been processed and you didn't claim the credit on your original 2020 tax return, you must file an Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, Form 1040-X, to claim the credit. The IRS will not calculate the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit for you if you did not enter any amount on your original 2020 tax return.

You can use the Interactive Tax Assistant, Should I File an Amended Return?, to help determine if you should amend your original tax return.

If you must file an amended return to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit, use the worksheet on page 59 of the 2020 instructions for Form 1040 and Form 1040-SR PDF to determine the amount of your credit. Enter the amount on the Refundable Credits section of the 1040-X and include "Recovery Rebate Credit" in the Explanation of Changes section.

If you filed your 2020 return electronically and it's been processed, you must file an amended return, and you may be able to file Form 1040-X electronically."
