Turbotax asks "Did you get round 1 and round 2 of the stimulus?" If you say "No", then Turbotax puts the rebate on your tax return. However, if the IRS thinks they paid you, they will remove the rebate, even if you didn't receive the money.
Some reasons why the IRS will think they sent the stimulus but you never received it:
- It went to the wrong bank account
- It went to an IRS debit card that was lost in the mail or accidentally discarded
- It was confiscated for back child support
If the IRS thinks they sent a payment but you never received a payment, you can't get the payment on your tax return, you have to Trace the missing payment. See question F3 here,
