I've seen news reports that a lot of people who got direct deposit for July were sent paper checks in the mail for August, so it could take a while for the check to get to you. I haven't seen anything official from the IRS, but this seems to be some sort of mixup at the IRS, and they say it will be fixed and go back to direct deposit for September.
