TT bug filed a return with invalid refund request
Did not receive refund for 23 days or so (still says "processing" on the IRS website), so I went into the PDF that the TurboTax desktop generated to look for bugs that I didn't catch before tapping Submit on tax day. I think I found an obscure problem: TurboTax included an amount on Schedule 3 line 12e that was added with my estimated tax payments on Form 1040 lines 31-32 making it look like I overpaid my taxes and thus would be entitled to a small refund shown on line 34! But Schedule 3 line 12e only represents an amount to be deferred for future payment, not any kind of tax credit and therefore should not be deducted from the estimated tax payments! Shouldn't the TurboTax desktop app have iteratively lowered the amount it shows on Schedule 3 line 12e until either it was $0 or the total tax "refund" showing on Form 1040 line 34 was $0, whichever occurred first? I was thinking that maybe I was missing something, but I went searching and found paragraph 30 on https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/deferral-of-employment-tax-deposits-and-payments-through-december-31-20... that seems to confirm.
Back to my poor tax return stuck at IRS in "processing" status...Should I submit an amended return while IRS is still processing the original return? When customers find such bugs in TurboTax desktop, does Intuit notify all of the affected customers and send a letter advising IRS of the problem automatically?
