After you file
I added one cent to both the gross distribution and the taxable amount boxes on one of the allegedly "duplicate" 1099-Rs, and voila, my returns were accepted by both IRS and my state.
But again, the "proof" that the 1099s were NOT duplicates is that the account numbers differed, albeit slightly. TurboTax needs to take the necessary steps, as to either its own software or coordination with IRS.
Filing by mail really is not the answer for a variety of reasons, including that a state may not accept an efile if the IRS rejected it. And, the state may expect or require an efile.
