After you file
No, you should go ahead and file your return for 2017. Your return from 2017 can be e-filed electronically and will be handled separately. You should use the same account that you used prior to file both returns.
In order to amend the return see the instructions below:
Make sure your return was accepted/received by the IRS
- Then, sign in with the login you used for your 2016 return.
- Select Show on the line that says, Your past tax returns & documents.
- Select 2016, and then Amend (change) 2016 return.
- Now follow the onscreen instructions.
