Why did my federal tax due go up when I said I received the stimulus payment when amending my returns to add a W-2? I received the payment through my original returns.

I filled my taxes earlier this year and then was notified that I had an additional W-2 to file. When asked if I received the first and second stimulus payments, I said yes. For context, I did not originally receive them but received them through my original tax filings. Therefore when asked the question if I had received them, I assumed yes. However, when I chose that option, my calculated federal tax due increased the amount of the two stimulus payments combined.
