After you file

This would be an additional tax refund, and it would have to be recalculated based on your tax return.

 

If your good at math you can try to follow this.

 

  • Line 15 is taxable income
  • Subtract the lesser of 
    • The amount you got from Unemployment, or
    • $10,200
  • This will give you your new taxable income.
  • Based on your filing status (single, married etc.) 
  • Lookup your tax in the tax table
  • 2020 Instruction 1040 TAX AND EARNED INCOME CREDIT TABLES (irs.gov)
  • This should be less than line 16
  • line 16 minus the number you calculated equals what you should get back.
