After you file
File a 1040X to amend the 1040 you filed and also a 1040NR.
The stimulus payment will need to be mailed back.
On the 1040X enter your information, don't enter the numbers from your original 1040 but enter in Part ||| that you should have filed 1040NR instead.
Next, complete your 1040NR and write AMENDED across the top.
Send both forms to the IRS. Print and mail them, do not e-file.
Pay whatever the difference in the 1040 versus the 1040NR. For example, if the 1040NR says you owe 100 and your original 1040 had a refund of 200, you'll need to pay 300.
Mail the stimulus back to the address provided by where you live. Include a note as to why you are returning it. If it is a check, write VOID on the check. If it was Direct deposit, write EIP 1 for first payment or EIP 2 for the second or EIP 3 for the third.
If it was the "Recovery Rebate Credit", include it with your amended tax returns.
