After you file

when “where’s my refund” status says we are STILL processing your tax return, it usually means  there might be a questionable situation and they are probably going to be sending you a correspondence, to either inquire on additional information, or they are making corrections and they’ll continue processing your tax return. However, this is only my understanding from past years experience and others, I know who’ve also experienced this particular scenario amid their tax returns and “WMR” on irs.gov  It’s important to note, that more likely you’ll receive mail from internal revenue and they usually let you know that your tax return is under review, and will request additional information from you or will say “no further information is needed” from you at this time, and your return will be processed within 60 (some times it says 45) days, if they need anything else, a letter will be mailed for correspondence. Or your file will be updated on WMR once the review is complete, and a refund date is issued. But, I heard, if your return is delayed, calling the IRS will only further delay your refund. However, that is not 100% verifiable fact, it’s been said by many tax filers who ran into delays, reviews, and audits the last few years. Many low wage and middle wage earners have been going through these delays during tax season in recent years.
