You can call whenever you want. I only said 3-4 weeks because your check might come in the meantime. If you want to call before then to see if one is in the works, that's OK.

However, there is another number you may wish to try first. But the prompts will likely be different.
It's for the IRS Refund Hotline. It has automated info (and also live agents during business hours.). You can try now to see what the automated system says about your refund, but it might be the same info as the IRS WMR tool . 800-829-1954
You can also reach an IRS agent through that hotline number during business hours. But I don't know the prompts for that number. You'll just have to listen carefully. Use the prompts that take you to a live agent.
