After you file
I mailed my 2019 tax returns late. And it hasn’t been processed yet. So in a rush, I filed my 2020 taxes through TurboTax. When I submitted the tax returns it asked me for my 2019 AGI. I entered what was on the paper copy. But it rejected it. I realized that since my 2019 mailed tax returns weren’t processed yet, they don’t know my 2019 AGI. After googling for an hour trying to figure out a fix, I learned that you need to enter $0 as your previous year AGI.
So when it asked me if I wanted to “try again”, it asked to confirm his identity and the 2019 AGI. Did that and clicked submit. It rejected again! But this time, it asked me to confirm MY identity and AGI. I noticed it still had the AGI I had typed in from my paper copy. So once I revised MY AGI, IRS and California accepted my returns! I guess even though we are married and filing jointly, we have to enter the AGI for both individuals.
Hope this helps you!
