In this case, it is because the IRS has in their system that they have distributed a stimulus check to you (whether via DD or mailed check), regardless of whether or not you received one. So, if in your questionnaire you inputted that you did not receive one or both, but they have in their system that they distributed one or both, then they will adjust that amount that was added to your refund when TurboTax did the calculation based on your entries to what they have in their system. If, in fact, you did not receive a check (again, whether via DD or physical check) and they reduced your expected refund, contact them immediately. 

 

If you never received the first stimulus payment, and the Get My Payment Tool, or the letter you received from the IRS (Notice 1444), says that the payment was mailed, you can request a payment trace now. To request a payment trace, call 800-919-9835 or fill out IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.
