After you file

"The option to file an amended return through TurboTax will not be available until March 15th."

While there are several other posts on this thread stating that 2019 amended tax returns cannot be e-filed and must be mailed in, I find the "delayed to March 15th" response the most credible. Why? The IRS website acknowledges that 2019 amended returns can be e-filed and not surprisingly, TurboTax-at least my Premier desktop version-supports e-filing the 2019 amended return.  Finally, the error message that appears after I attempt to e-file reads (in short) e-filing is not available right now but will be sometime in late January or early February. The intent of the message is to notify users that "we aren't quite ready to do this yet... but we will be soon". If indeed TurboTax was dropping support for the feature, I would fully expect TurboTax to update the desktop editions and remove the feature altogether.

Now to my questions. I understand that the date of availability for e-filing 2019 amended returns through TurboTax has changed. While March 15th is the latest availability date, I would like to track this for myself so that if it does change again, I can keep up with the current date of availability and not have to go back through support to find that out. With that said, can you please advise on the source of that information and how best I might track it?

If on the other hand a decision has been made to drop support for e-filing amended returns for 2019, can someone please confirm that the March 15th target date was superseded by a decision to drop support altogether and help me to understand the reason and why an update hasn't been made to TurboTax desktop versions to remove the feature?

I know that's a lot of questions 🙂 and appreciate any clarification you can provide.
