Identity Verification
I received a letter from the state of Illinois saying I need to verify my identity. Will that prolong my refund? I'm hearing the IRS takes 9 weeks to put it through but the IRS isn't the one asking me to verify

It may delay your refund with the state. The best way to verify if it would delay your refund would be to contact your Ilinois State tax department. They will be able to answer this with certanty.

- I'm just repost what I was stating. Okay I filed my federal tax return on January 27 and got it accepted on January 28. Then 2 weeks after I file they sent out a 5071C letter dated February 11 but I didn't t the letter until after Valentine's Day which was February 15 then I called the IRS on February 18. I still have the message is being processed. I want to know has anyone got their DDD quick after identity verification and how long did it take for the bars to reappear. Because I don't have 4-9 weeks to wait for a return. I got bills

Why should I call an IRS advocate.? What can they do to help. Because I call the IRS yesterday and the lady told me that their isn't anything she see that's holding my taxes up. They sent me the letter because I needed to verify my identity. I moved from Chicago to Phoenix in 2018. However if the advocate can tell me when something. I read on here where a guy went through identity verification and got his bars back in 10 days and had a ddd. Not 9 weeks. So do I really have o wait that long. Plus I don't know if I update 1 time a week on a Pacific day of the week.

An advocate will look into what's taking so long and help get it quicker.........or you can wait with no answers. Up to you honestly.

In an effort to help protect your identity and fight tax fraud, the IRS and many state tax offices are now asking that tax filers provide their driver’s license or state-issued ID number.
Providing this info is not required to file your taxes. However, in some states, omitting this info may delay the processing of your return.
