UPDATE 2/19: My returns were accepted by the IRS. I changed nothing at all... just resubmitted with the same info and it was accepted this time. Apparently the issue was something technical that Intuit had to resolve with their software update.
My return was also rejected for this reason, but I don't use Vanguard. I use Merrill Lynch and had some short term covered stock sales reported. I read the information Intuit provided on how to resolve the issue. What's odd is that nothing appeared to change. All the values I entered before were still there and every field was identical to what it was when I filed the first time. I confirmed all the values had been entered correctly. Once I completed that, it did not change my cost basis and did not reduce my overall taxes as their explanation suggested may happen for "some situations."
Anyway, I just refiled my taxes tonight and hope it "sticks" this time. I don't see anything different with this version, though. Maybe something behind the scenes that gets transmitted electronically.
