After you file
As long as you did not indicate that someone was claiming you as a dependent, then you claimed yourself. Follow the directions below to view the dependency status on your return.
- Log in and click take me to my return (unless already in).
- Click the My Info tab from the left-side menu.
- On the next screen, you will see your personal information listed.
- Click the Edit hyperlink beside your name.
- On the next screen, scroll down and look and question number three. You should have answered No to this question.

After you file
You can also check the 1040. If you (or your spouse) can be claimed as a dependent, check your return.
On the new 1040 check on the second line at the top under your name. It says.......
Standard Deduction and there is a checkbox if someone can claim you. That would not be checked if you are claiming yourself.
